The Problem With Working Out On Machines At The Gym:
According to Paul Chek, a pioneer in the functional exercise movement, when you work out on machines at the gym, you are strapped into a seat while you isolate 1-2 large muscle groups at a time. When you isolate your muscle groups like this, you do not use your stabilizing muscles.
Therefore, when you go out into the real world and pick up an equivalent amount of weight, let’s say a power tool or a child, you are at risk of getting hurt because you can’t stabilize your spine as the extremity joints are being used. I’ve been a member of Curves for two months and haven’t lost any weight. How does your program compare to Curves?
Answer:
There are a lot of people in your shoes who aren’t able to lose much weight with Curves. At Curves you are required to sign up for a year-long membership ($480/yr.) and then you do the same workout routine every time. The workout may be challenging at first but after a few months your body will adapt to the Curves workout and it may have little to no effect.
This is because you must continually change the variables in your workout every month or your body will adapt and it will have little effect.
